Three openings analysis

Leon

This film starts off with a pan shot showing the surroundings that the film is set in. Cuts to two people in a dark room talking about a person that one of the men wants dead. Never shows the men as a whole, just certain facial features. This is done to build tension and it is darkened so that the meeting looks private and hidden away which makes audience feel uneasy.

Cuts to showing the victim entering a hotel and is followed by men to show him as a significant figure of this gang, close up of victims face so you see its the same person shown in the picture in the meeting of the two men.

Hear that someone is coming to visit the man, never shows this person to build tension, as youdont know where he is or who he will kill next. After all of the victims mob is called the room hes in goes vey dark and you see the fear on his face when this happens, see him scrabbling around trying to get out this builds tension as you do not know when he is going to strike. When the man meets the victim you see his face for the first time so you know who it is.

Se7en

Film starts off with a man cuting out newspaper articles to do with certain people and the seven deadly sins, then shows him loading a gun, never see mans face, builds tension, then shows him scratching off his fingerprints, makes it looks like he is preparing to kill someone, cuts to a house where inside it is dark and full of decaying food, then see a victim who is very large, dead with his head in food. Shows that this man was greedy and greed is one of the seven deadly sins, neither the audience or the police know who it is which builds tension, as you dont know why he is killing these people or who he is likely to kill next.

Jagged Edge

Starts showing victim asleep, this gives the audiene a false sense of security. This then cuts to a p.o.v shot of a person walking up dimly lit stairs, at this point the only sound you can hear is the background music, this creates tension as you do not know what it is going up the stairs or where it is. This continues in a p.o.v shot as you see the person open the door, cuts the woman/victim waking up from someone coming into her room. There are then alot of different camera shots which are mainly close ups of the victims face and the killers knife. This causes confusion as you do not see what is going on. After this a wide shot of the house is shown, and you hear screaming, you see that the house is very secluded this shows that nobody can help the person.
